A new bird: the Red Kite
The Red Kite joins the Out and About birds, with a recording from our own Vi Natura listening station: the long, wavering whistle it calls as it circles high over Chobham. Listen for a thin 'weeeooo' from the sky, then look up for the forked tail. That's 55 species. Hear the Red Kite →

Five more recordings of our own
The Robin, Blue Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Green Woodpecker and Nuthatch now play recordings from our own Vi Natura listening station in Chobham: the Robin's autumn song, the Blue Tit's shimmering trill, a passing flock of Long-tailed Tits, the Green Woodpecker's laugh and the Nuthatch's ringing whistles. That makes eight birds whose songs are all our own. See what the station is hearing →

Hear their calls as well as their songs
Robin, Wren, Blackbird, Dunnock, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Tawny Owl and Treecreeper now have their calls on their pages, beside the song: the Robin's 'tic', the Blackbird's 'pink-pink' alarm, the Tawny Owl's 'ke-wick' and more. All recorded at our own listening station, and calls are what you'll hear most in autumn and winter. Where birds are easily confused, you can compare their calls side by side too. Start with the Robin →
